Project overview

The project ran from 13 to 15 February 2020 at the Batchingou Integrated Health Center.

Free consultations were offered in the following specialties:

  • General medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Diabetology
  • Oncology
  • Urology
  • General surgery

Training sessions were also delivered to medical staff.

Why this project

Cardiovascular, metabolic, and surgical diseases are rising. Based on data from the Cameroon Heart Foundation and the Cameroon Journal:

  • Hypertension prevalence: 35%
  • Diabetes: 1.2 million people
  • Diabetes expected to rise by 80% by 2030
  • 17,000 deaths per year due to hypertension and complications

Project objectives

General objective

Reduce the prevalence and complications of cardiovascular, metabolic, and surgical diseases in Cameroon.

Socio-educational objectives

  • Reduce complications linked to cardiovascular diseases and diabetes
  • Improve quality of life for people with hypertension, diabetes, and surgical conditions

  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STD)

  • Surgical pathologies (visceral, etc.)

  • Free consultations in general and specialized medicine
  • Free diagnosis and follow-up of detected conditions

Epidemiological data

The Batchingou Integrated Health Center is located in West Cameroon, Nde department, Bagangte district.

Estimated population: 195,000 inhabitants.
